Having your favorite time piece go dead can be frustrating, and dealing with having to replace the batteries on an annual basis is an annoyance that can be avoided.
Watches with a chronograph feature can last longer when this feature is turned off. What is a chronograph feature you ask? The purpose for purchasing a time piece with a chronograph feature is for a stopwatch function. Wearers can start the chronograph in order to measure intervals of time during an even in progress. While it is a handy function, watches with a chronograph tend to have their batteries wear out sooner than other watches. Turning off the feature allows the batteries to last longer.
Extending a Watch Battery
The battery in a watch with a chronograph feature will last approximately 10 months to a year if the feature is used at all times. Stopping the feature allows a wearer to enjoy a watch battery life that increases to about two years. If you do not regularly use this feature on your watch, stopping it to extend the life of your battery is a must.
Fortunately, stopping the chronograph feature to extend the life of your battery is not a difficult task. Start by determining if the feature is currently in use. You can do this by observing the large sweep second hand on your watch. If it is in motion, the feature is on and you need to take steps to stop it.
Stop the chronograph by pressing the upper pusher (located at 2 o’clock) one time. If you would like to reset the large second hand to the 12 position, you will need to press the lower (located at 4 o’clock) one time. This is a simple way to stop the chronograph feature so you will not have to worry about replacement so soon.
